Fatigue Testing of Human Flexor Tendons Using a Customized 3D-Printed Clamping System

چکیده

Improved surgical procedures and implant developments for ligament or tendon repair require an in-depth understanding of tissue load-deformation fatigue properties. Cyclic testing will provide crucial information on the behavior these materials under reoccurring loads strength. Sparse data are available describing soft cyclic loading. To examine strength, a new technology was trialed deploying 3D-printing to facilitate standardize tests aiming determine behavior. Cadaveric flexor digitorum tendons were harvested mounted tensile with no tapering being made, using 3D-printed clamps holder arms, while ensuring consistent length. Loads ranging between 200 510 N applied at frequency 4 Hz, cycles failure ranged 8 >260,000. S–N curves (Woehler curves) generated based peak stresses failure. Power regression yielded combined coefficient determination stress R2 = 0.65, individual coefficients tissues single donors 0.54 0.88. The here-presented results demonstrate that human can be obtained standardized setting technology.

Fatigue Characterization of 3d Printed Elastomer Material

The Objet PolyJet 3D Printing process provides the ability to print graded materials featuring both stiff and elastomeric polymers. This capability allows for a variety of new design possibilities for additive manufacturing such as living hinges, shock absorbing casings, and integrated gaskets. Such design features typically rely upon the ability of traditional elastomers to experience large an...

Secondary surgery of the flexor tendons

e have spent the last fifty years talking about primary flexor tendon surgery and very little thought has been directed towards secondary surgery during this time, although it is a large part of our flexor tendon workload. While primary surgery has moved on, secondary surgery has not and any discussion of this subject inevitably has to look back to the 1970s and 80s for information on surgical ...

Homotypic Variation of Canine Flexor Tendons

Introduction: The design of experimental studies in animal models and tissues has operated under the assumption that the variation in tissue properties within an animal is less than the variation between animals. For example, the contralateral limb is assumed to be the best control for musculoskeletal investigations. Further, this assumption suggests that organ culture studies should utilize a ...

Mechanical compromise of partially lacerated flexor tendons.

Tendons function to transmit loads from muscle to move and stabilize joints and absorb impacts. Functionality of lacerated tendons is diminished, however clinical practice often considers surgical repair only after 50% or more of the tendon is lacerated, the "50% rule." Few studies provide mechanical insight into the 50% rule. In this study cyclic and static stress relaxation tests were perform...

Variations of Plantaris, Palmaris Longus, and Fifth Superficial Flexor Tendons: a Cadaver Study

Background & Aims: The Plantaris muscle is located in the superficial posterior compartment of the leg and is absent in some individuals. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the absence variation of Plantaris muscle and its possible relation with Palmaris longus and fifth superficial flexor digitorum of the hand. Methods: 83 fresh cadavers, referred to legal medicine center, Kerman, Ir...
